The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service upon the United States against the naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, just before 08:00, on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941.
The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, coupled with their military incursions into the Aleutian Islands, changed things in an instant. Suddenly, Alaska became a potential Japanese invasion route to Canada and the Lower 48, so both governments agreed that the road would now be built.
These events influenced in having military and air force to establish airfields and military bases in the north. The current Gurudwara building was part of that mobilization in the 1940s. the building still has the thick concrete walls originally built at that time.
Before becoming a Gurudwara in September 2021, this building was used by The Salvation Army, which operated the ARC, for more than 20 years. The 18-bed facility served as a live-in rehabilitative centre for men who have recently been released from jail after serving sentences or who were out on bail and require supervision.
On August 27, 2021 Salvation Army handed over the keys to the building to Guru Nanak Sikh organization of Yukon.
For next two weeks volunteers worked around the clock to transform this location from a half-way house to our own Home - Gurudwara Akaljot Sahib.
