On Sunday Aug 07th,2022, Hon. Nils Clarke, Minister of Highways and Public Works, Hon. Ranj Pillai, Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Brendan Hanley Members of Parliament, and Ted Laking Councillor City of Whitehorse joined the Sanget of Guru Nanak Sikh Organization of Yukon at Gurdwara Akaljot Sahib in breaking ground on their one-year water and sewer project! This project will support the repurposing of an old Salvation Army facility into a #Sikh Community & Cultural Centre here in #Whitehorse.
Our governments recognize the value this new hub will have in serving the Yukon's growing Sikh community. The Government of Canada has contributed $490,000 delivered through CanNor to this project, as well as the Government of Yukon with their contribution of $165,000 through the Community Development Fund to complete remedial and restoration work to the area surrounding the old Salvation Army Adults Halfway House building. G. Peterson Contracting has now broken ground for Total contract value of $719,477.50 plus GST to begin installing water and sanitary services so this new place of worship can soon officially open in full. Thank you every one for the support and congratulations!
